The last few days, I’ve thought a lot about various quotations and scriptures regarding thankfulness. Terry and I have so much to be thankful for. During our most challenging times — the years when our problems seemed insurmountable, and we had little hope — the verse that made the biggest impact on me was Psalm 50:23:
“Anyone who sacrifices thank offerings to me honors me.
He makes it possible for me to show him
that I am the God who saves.” (NIRV)
It’s easy to give thanks when everything’s going great. But, what about the job layoff? The business loss? The sick family member? The empty bank account? When we thank God in spite of difficult circumstances because we choose to trust Him, it honors Him the most, and it seems to break down barriers to His blessings. We suddenly are filled with a sense of His sustenance, and His deep love for us that will carry us through whatever we face in this life.
Our thanks to Him demonstrates our trust, and trust activates our courage.
