When Alex’s blood pressure rose, as it often did, others in the room could sense the tension. Warned of the dangers of his condition, he considered medications to ease the stress. Then he read about asking God for heart healing. Once he realized he could pray at the moment painful memories came to mind, he would respond to a sudden stab in his soul by praying immediately. This is what he told me:
“Now I’ve prayed about millions of memories from the ‘old Alex’ while driving the Los Angeles freeways for work. Whether I thought of an argument I had over fifty years ago, or an embarrassing moment when my boss ridiculed me in front of our sales team, I’d put one hand on my heart and ask God to heal the pain from each bad memory.”
Thoughts repeatedly nagging Alex for years were all neutralized by God. His brief freeway prayers brought increased peace, and his chronic high blood pressure lowered dramatically.
Chapter 9 of The Heart Healer is filled with stories of people just like Alex, and you and me, who experienced disappointments, trauma and heartache, but learned of the amazing love of Christ.
They realized that because of this love, and a simple prayer for heart healing, God would extract the pain from their memories, taking away its nagging negative influence.
In Proverbs 4:23, God instructs us to “guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.” How do we guard our hearts? One way is to ask Him to come to us, heal our pain, and restore our hearts to peace. When we have the kind of peace that comes from the Creator of the Universe, there’s no denying that our health, our thoughts, and our actions come from a calm place within us—a place that once was troubled.
Alex took steps to guard his heart. God’s healing brought peace. The peace protected and restored his heart. And, when you pray, God will do the same for you.
May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace, as you trust in Him that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
