My mother’s battle with lung cancer was hard fought. As she was moved from hospital to hospital over five months I witnessed her suffering daily. Just before Thanksgiving, I checked her out of the hospital and stood beside her in the elevator on her way to freedom. That’s when she began to cry. My mother never cried, but this day, she was crying hard.
“Mom, what’s the matter?” I asked.
Between tears she said, “An angel just appeared to me and said I will never have to be in a hospital again.”
She was relieved, hoping for healing, but I knew her prognosis. We were instructed to take her home to enjoy the holidays with her family. Short of a miracle, this would be our last Christmas with Mom.
I believe in miracles of God, and I have seen many; however, this particular time, the Lord was ready for her to be with Him.
Her months of illness allowed time for us to relate in special ways — to reconcile past errors and share fun memories. While Mom suffered, though, there were many agonizing experiences for all of us. I couldn’t ask the Lord to heal me of the entire collection of heartache from this period because it was too much at once and too painful. I sensed God saying, “Let’s go to different moments of memories and heal them one at a time.” So wise. It’s all I could handle as I grieved.
Allow God to reveal to you memories to heal in His time. Don’t force yourself to think of many things at once. His powerful love for you is gentle, and after all, He IS The Heart Healer.

“But I will sing of your strength,
in the morning I will sing of your love;
for you are my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.” Psalm 59:16 (NIV)
